Beijing Disc Golf Tournaments 2023: A Grand Success
這 inaugural Beijing Disc Golf Tournaments, held from June 3rd to 4th, 2023, came to a successful close at the World Horticultural Expo Park in Beijing. This two-day event attracted disc golf enthusiasts from both within China and abroad, marking it as the largest scale disc golf event in China to date.
Tournament Structure and Rules
The tournament was divided into two categories: the Elite and the Public groups. The Elite group competed in a 36-hole format, while the Public group played in an 18-hole format. The competition followed the “National Frisbee Sports Competition Rules – 飛盤高爾夫 Competition Rules (Trial)”. Both groups played two rounds, with the first being a qualifying round and the second being the final round.
Diverse Participants
This was the first 飛盤高爾夫球 event of its kind in Beijing, featuring top players from 13 Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, and Kunshan, as well as international competitors from the United States, 澳洲, 還有更多. Participants ranged from vibrant youths to senior enthusiasts, from office workers to free-spirited young professionals, all showcasing the charm of disc golf.
Disc Golf Popularity and Accessibility
With the promotion of disc golf, public awareness and understanding of the sport have deepened. Disc golf, 也稱為飛盤高爾夫, is similar to golf, but uses the hand as the club, the disc as the ball, and the basket as the target. The objective is to throw the disc into the basket from the starting area with the fewest throws possible. This sport is gaining popularity due to its good environmental setting and the joy of “making the basket”. Unlike golf, disc golf has a lower participation threshold, simpler equipment, and is easier to learn, making it a sport suitable for all.
Winners and Highlights
After two days of intense competition, Sun Yu Han, Long Jian Chao, and Tim Flanders secured the top three spots in the Elite Men’s group. Ma Yan Wen, Lv Yan Yan, and Zhang Jing took the top spots in the Elite Women’s group. The top three in the Men’s Public group were Xia Yu Nong, Yao Yuan, and Zheng Lang. Lv Hai Yan, Wang Yun Yu, and Sun Jian Ping won the Women’s Public group, Youth Public group, and Senior Public group respectively.
Enhancing Participant Engagement
The tournament filled a gap in official disc golf events in Beijing, enhancing the quality of the competition through the participants’ sense of involvement, experience, and gain. The first-class competition environment, with its scenic and challenging routes, enhanced the sense of participation for the players.
Sports + Tourism for Enhanced Experience
The development of outdoor sports has given rise to a new model of sports and tourism. The inaugural Beijing 飛盤高爾夫 Tournament leveraged the advantages of outdoor trend sports events to create a unique experience for participants. The event aimed to promote the “Outdoor Sports City” of Yanqing District and accelerate the construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou Sports Culture Tourism Belt.
Digital Collectibles for a Sense of Achievement
Following the series of digital collectibles from the Beijing Flag Football Open, the first Beijing Disc Golf Tournament introduced its first digital collectible using blockchain technology. Participants could purchase exclusive collectibles through the “Beijing Fitness Gathering” WeChat mini-program and receive corresponding physical discs. This combination of virtual and real attracted more collectors and enthusiasts, meeting the collection needs of more enthusiasts. 尤其, the proceeds from the digital collectibles will be fully donated to the Beijing Sports Foundation to support the development of fitness activities in the capital.
