Wukong is a major character in the classic Chinese supernatural and mythical novel “Journey to the West”. He was born from a celestial stone that emerged during the creation of the world. He was born on Huaguo Mountain and apprenticed himself to Patriarch Bodhi, learning magical arts such as the Seventy-two Transformations and the Somersault Cloud.
Later, he obtained the Ruyi Jingu Bang from the Dragon Palace of the East China Sea. After causing a great uproar in the Underworld, which alarmed the heavens, he was recruited by the Jade Emperor and appointed as the Bimawen (Keeper of the Imperial Horses). He ate the golden pills of the Supreme Lord Laozi in the Heavenly Court and refined his Fiery Eyes with Golden Pupils. After that, he created a huge uproar in the Heavenly Palace and was finally suppressed under the Five Fingers Mountain by the Tathagata Buddha for over five hundred years.
Later, enlightened by Guanyin, he was rescued by Tang Seng. Together with Zhu Bajie and Sha Wujing, he protected Tang Seng on his journey to the Western Paradise to fetch the Buddhist scriptures. Along the way, they subdued demons and vanquished monsters, going through eighty-one hardships, and finally obtained the true scriptures and achieved Buddhahood, being named the Victorious Fighting Buddha.

Nezha is a celestial being in ancient Chinese mythology and legends. His Sanskrit name is translated as “Narayana”. He is a demon-subduing deity respected by Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. His birth was extraordinary. Armed with a set of divine artifacts, he can transform into three heads and six arms or three heads and eight arms and is an incarnation of the lotus. When he was young, he once caused a stir in the sea by killing a dragon, thus giving rise to the legend of Nezha’s Adventure in the Sea.
